Virginia Stoffel, PhD, BCMH, FAOTA, is known for her work in mental health. Besides serving most recently as AOTA President (2013–2016), she has served on the AOTA Specialties Board, establishing Board Certification in Mental Health, and has co-authored the seminal Occupational Therapy in Mental Health: A Vision for Participation. Stoffel’s research focuses on transitioning from military to civilian life as a university student, parenting a child with autism, the lived experience of disability and recovery for people with mental illness and substance use disorders, and engagement in psychosocial clubhouses. Stoffel is also known for her involvement in leadership development training, including facilitating training programs for AOTA’s Emerging Leadership Development Program.
