Sidney Licht, MD (1908–1979), was an early and longtime supporter and historian of occupational therapy. His writings and speeches to occupational therapy associations urged higher educational standards and the need to develop a rationale and begin collection of data to establish its effectiveness at a time when occupational therapy was being discounted for lack of these. He was editor of Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation, the precursor to the American Journal of Occupational Therapy. His work on kinetic analysis of crafts and occupations taught occupational therapists activity analysis, a primary skill of modern occupational therapists.
