Sharon A. Cermak, EdD, OTR/L, FAOTA, is an internationally renowned scholar, researcher, and clinician. Her clinical practice and research focuses on autism spectrum disorder, dyspraxia, and sensory processing. Cermak is especially interested in the daily activities of families and children. She has completed studies of food selectivity, sensory factors, and meal-time behaviors in children with ASD and has examined the relationship of physical activity, participation, and obesity in children with motor coordination disorders. Cermak currently directs a $3.2 million randomized controlled trial at the University of Southern California funded by NIH to examine the benefits of adapting the sensory environment at the dentist to enhance oral care for children with ASD.
